Sykes has been wrong on quite a bit before, and I don’t think that he’s necessarily got the links to William’s camp that he pretends. But I found this article interesting, not least because it does fit with Charles’ weakness in this (definitely getting the vibe he wants to shove it under the rug for his son to deal with).
I very much doubt this.
I think UK should follow other royal families and only limit titles to crown family and working royals. Down the line, William has three kids and they will have their own family, so they could make a system where only George’s kids have title.
So if he scraps those titles and gives his kids a chance to live as private citizens, who’s going to be left? Are we seeing him dismantling the RF so they’re more in line with European models? It would fit with his work ethic I guess
Seems fair if he’s applying it to everyone. Can’t be selective. Either you actively work for the Crown or you don’t. I wonder though if it’s just removal of the HRH or he’ll go all out with removing Prince/Princess/Duke/Duchess. — “The dramatic change will be effected by an executive royal order known as “letters patent,” to be ratified by Parliament in the early weeks of the reign of King William V. It will remove princely titles from Beatrice, Eugenie, Harry, Archie, and Lilibet.”
File this article under FICTION. It’s complete rubbish.
I mean it might happen. But I do kinda think Tom Sykes is doing his usual of hearing some vague rumor second or third hand and then running with it.
I think there might be some truth. I’ve thought for a long time he’s going to channel his inner George V and refresh it.
Even if it’s true, then I don’t see what kind of punishment it is for Andrew? I am sure he’s embarrassed, but what he’s accused of is the rape of a trafficked minor.
Going forward that means Charlotte and Louis’s kids wouldn’t have titles too, right?
Working hard to become as unpopular as Daddy.
When the king and the PoW were out for health reasons, didn’t we all agree that the monarchy needs more people to step up and do royal duties when they trotted out some of the eldest members of the family to show up for events?
Anne is 75 and her kids don’t do royal duties. The Edinburghs are in their early 60s so Sophie will keep on showing up at weddings with tiara on representing the family for hopefully a long time, but are their kids ready for royal duties if they event want them? The York sisters are fairly visible, but they are focused on their kids and their families.
So, unless we trim down their various duties and the role becomes smaller, this may not be viable.
Good. He’s just following on the footsteps of the other European royal houses. I don’t see what the problem is. Imo princely titles should only go to the children of the next monarch, and Dukedom should only be given to working royals. If they step down, the title is removed.
Is there not money associated with the titles, at least for those immediately related to the monarch (Andrew, for instance)
Can he give back some of the money? Slim the budget for the monarchy.
And if this is actually leaked from William, they’re being incredibly crass about Charles’ health.
The titles aren’t the issue. It’s the unchecked power. Do something about that.
Edit: it’s not letting me respond below.
The unchecked power to shield a predator. That needs an investigation. Elizabeth should never have been able to protect Andrew
I actually hope that he has this bonfire – I see it as a step to allowing the British public to get used to titles being actually taken away. With this measure, we might get a further reduction in the size of the British royal family and aristocracy and ultimately a republic.
He doesn’t have the power to do that with the princely titles, but sure, cool.
What is the point of stripping away the titles of his brother and utterly blameless cousins after they have held them for almost 40 years since birth??
Why not simply restrict Royal titles going forward?
Other than being a gesture of vindictive pettiness, I don’t see the point. Other than to score brownie points from like-minded subjects and Royal watchers.🙄
Overall the public opinion was positive when Queen Margrethe did this in Denmark so idk why anyone would be against it for BRF
I wonder how much of this is influenced by Prince Andrew. You don’t want to have to worry about a random relative making the entire monarchy look bad, and it’s easier to dismiss them as irrelevant if they don’t have a title. If there are fewer royals with more direct ties to the King, it is easier to control from a PR perspective.
Can you imagine how his father feels with every interview he talks about when he becomes King? Like hurry up and die Pa.
