SS: After Hamas broke the ceasefire on Sunday, killing 2 Israeli soldiers in an RPG ambush, there needs to be strong repercussions for these violations to stop them from occurring again.
Israel is weary, but there’s no reason its troops couldn’t hold more advanced positions. As long as Israel controls the Gaza-Egypt border to cut off Hamas’s arms smuggling, security is manageable.
But to prevent Hamas from reconstituting a rump state, the Arab “stabilization force” needs to get moving. If it isn’t able to quickly deploy, destroy tunnels and disarm Hamas—or if the parties look to make it another United Nations peacekeeping farce—forget it.
The Hamas stans will find an excuse. Like with their executions they did in cold blood, they not only excuses it, but cheered it on saying things like ‘well their justice infrastructure is gone so this is the best they can do and it’s okay’
Hamas didn’t break the ceasefire. Israel overreacted to two IDF soldiers detonating some old IED or unexploded ordinance. They murdered innocent civilians in return and were forced back into the ceasefire by the Trump administration.
I also read no stipulation in the ceasefire agreement about Hamas not carrying out policing or extra judicial killings. So it’s hardly something the Israelis can point to as reason to resume hostilities.
Isnt this cease fire THE excuse, i mean the sides get to stop shooting at each other for a while and consolidate domestic support. Likud will hold elections and get a new mandate and Hamas gets to clean house. Until the business are sorted, we are stuck trading barbs and keeping the war warm.Â
Why is max stirner suddenly a lightning rod for online stuff? This is a weird fusion
So on side we have a nation where the leader of that country has largely been able to avoid corruption charges by using the conducting of the war as an excuse to avoid the court proceedings. A nation which is run by a coalition that depends on the support of the far right who want nothing short of the complete destruction of the enemy and the ethnic cleansing of their territory. A side which still has their military intact and their country has been largely untouched by the conflict so is fully capable of resuming it. And indeed that same side has had some government officials argue that perhaps their side should do a false flag to force a resumption to the fighting.
And on the other side you have a group that has had their leadership, fighting force, and tax base absolutely decimated, with the considerably fewer fighters and civilians left starving due to Israel imposing the conditions for famine through their blockade. A side which lacks any capability now to make any attack on Israel proper whatsoever and where doing so would only bring them closer to complete annihilation.
Hmmm it’s a real puzzle to figure who would break this ceasefire and why./s
It’s crazy how many Hamas-apologists there are here. Whats wrong with you? Hamas is vile scum and needs to be disarmed and tried for war crimes.
Not only for what they did to the Israeli’s but also to the Palestinians. There is no reasonable argument to made in support of Hamas. None.
Israel did terrible things also and should also face justice. How they deal with Hamas is not one of those things
