Just thought this was interesting and wondered what others thought of the arguments?

The stats of the Irish Army compared to Loyalist Paramilitaries was wild at the end.

  1. Bit of a silly statistic, like half these eejits signed up to pay dues to a criminal enterprise would be willing or able to take up arms against the guards and the Irish army small as their numbers might be

  2. There’s supposedly a lot but not exactly well resourced, trained or intelligent.

  3. if the UVF and UDA tried to kick up a fuss in the event of a united ireland they’d be put down fairly quickly. the troubles was handled delicately because there was a serious issue of diplomacy considering the free state still officially claimed the north as its territory in the constitution.

in the event of a united ireland the loyalists wouldn’t have their mi5 backers helping them out and would be destroyed fairly quickly.

  4. At least the BBC/TUV is admitting that the PSNI are a British force.

Upon reunification, officers from outside the 6 should be deployed alongside their new colleagues, formerly of the PSNI.

Be interesting to see how quickly collusion disappears

  5. Irish police policing Irish streets on the island of Ireland; only a controversy if you’re a little soft in the head.

  6. There already is Irish police on “loyalist” streets. As far as the Garda, I see no reason why the PSNI wouldn’t remain as a regional force as it is now post-reunification. I watched that piece a few days back and really didn’t like the fellas contribution.

We really have to stop bringing up these gangs when discussing politics. Dissident Republicans are few and far between, and the UDA/UVF are nothing more than drug gang thiefdoms. The days of MI5/RUC passing weapons and information to loyalists are also long over. The notion they could or would mount any serious campaign of terror is ridiculous. They’re already swiss-cheesed by the police, and are more interested in selling coke to wee kids and extorting small businesses on the Shankhill.

  7. Majority of PUL dont trust the psni these days, people are out of touch if they think thats not the case with all the conspiracies that colussion is still taken place. Load of rubbish i reckon, most cops are middle class brown noses, you have to be a certain type of wanker to join any police force.

  8. What concessions have they made for us? Just look at the reaction to Irish language.

  9. I mean, without reading the article and just going by the title, the Irish state are just as much a bunch of bourgeoisie scumbag rats as the British are.. They are both the same politics of, “What is for us is not for the people and their voices are meaningless whispers to the wind below our castles in the sky”. The police/Garda? Puppets. Enforcers. ‘Followers of Orders’, no matter the cause. It really doesn’t matter which we have.
    Same shit, different accents.

  10. Does it matter? As long as they at least *pretend* not to be incompetent, why should anyone care?

  11. Would take the Garda any day over the corrupt psni. Loyalist terrorists are annoying as they give the unionist parties their direct orders but as others are saying, they don’t have the backing or resourcing of the british government, british army, mi5, etc anymore so they won’t be effective (they were crap during the Troubles as well).

  12. Why don’t the loyalists not just move to England? If they are so in love with the place.

  13. What a pompous, bizarre little chinwag that was.

You’d think the focus might be on actually stopping crime as it presently exists – a bit of prevention, a bit of early intervention – anything to stem the spiralling mess both jurisdictions are currently knee-deep in.

Instead we get nearly twenty minutes of contrived self-regarding, clickbait twaddle – all these daft broadly drawn “what if X did Y” hypotheticals with the subtlety of a brick through a window. redundant..crass. repulsive.

  14. ‘Loyalist police on Irish streets’ fixed that for you 👍

  15. Is the audio on this coming up in Hindi for anybody else or am I having a stroke?

  16. Im guessing the lads with stones may have a target. There is a lot of them everywhere

  17. The fact these loyalist paramilitaries still exist and are allowed to exist is the exact reason a UI must happen. Nobody should live in fear and should not want their children to grow up in that type of society

  18. Republicans: We need to start talking about the practicalities of a United Ireland.

    Also Republicans: Not like this.
