Zallaf Oil and Gas Exploration, Production, and Refining Company confirmed its full readiness for the implementation phase of the Southern Refinery project, with the site set to be operational soon, Libya’s official state news agency LANA reported today.

The news came during the annual technical meeting of the petroleum industries, held in Sabha. The meeting was attended by the chairman and members of the company’s board of directors, along with the general manager of the Petroleum Industries Department at the National Oil Corporation (NOC), and several engineers and specialists. The meeting was dedicated to monitoring the progress of the refinery project, reviewing the project’s phases and the progress achieved so far.

Saeed Al-Hadhiri, a member of the company’s board of directors for engineering, projects, and information technology, told a LANA correspondent that the basic engineering work has been completed, and contracts have been signed to supply the necessary equipment for the main refining units. Detailed engineering work has also been completed, and the refining units have been fully manufactured.

He pointed out that the refinery headquarters, located southwest of Ubari, is now fully ready to begin the implementation phase, with the initial camp, which includes offices, housing, and basic facilities, now fully equipped.

Al-Hadhiri emphasized that despite the challenges related to securing the financial budget, Zallaf’s staff are working with high efficiency to overcome the technical and logistical challenges, in continuous coordination with the NOC.

He explained that the Southern Refinery Project is a strategic step towards promoting development in the southern regions of Libya, with the project contributing to the creation of extensive job opportunities for local workers during the three-year implementation period.
