1. lmao at anyone still naive enough to cling to the idea that getting rid of trump would change anything. trump doesn’t matter, maga doesn’t matter. They have seized control and they don’t need trump or public support anymore to keep it. Any election can be rigged or straight out denied, any protest can be ignored or dissenters fired from their jobs, arrested, deported and/or killed

2. I keep seeing people talk about how when Trump is gone , somehow we’ll be back to the norms and that is a ridiculous fantasy. It’s the GOP that is authoritarian for the purpose of serving the oligarchs.

   Trump controls the cult of personality, for reasons i still cannot fathom. without him, a *lot* of the shit they are pulling now would not work. why? they need someone with the political coverage trump has *and* the pure fucking gall to pull the kind of shit he is just doing and say ‘what are you gonna do about it’? I don’t think that works with someone like JD vance in the big chair, for example, if he could even manage to attain it.

   Also, the coalition falls apart when the leader dies. cults of personality do not survive the death of the leader. there are a dozen examples from last century alone.

   That being said, the one good thing trump *has* done was expose just how deep the rot goes in the GOP. the whole thing still needs to be torn down, but it can’t happen until trump is gone.

   as fucked as things have gotten now, i have a feeling that the reckoning that comes after trump is gone is going to be extremely painful, possibly for both sides but certainly for the republicans, and it’s going to tar the GOP brand for a generation, if not permanently.

   The Nazi comparisons are not a jest any more.

4. Trump is just the figurehead. The coalition of fascists, zealots, bigots, oligarchs, and general power-hungry sociopaths using him and his cult to entrench themselves for decades to come have always been the big threat.

   They’re rushing ahead to enact their long-dreamed evil plots before the Big Macs take care of him and they can install someone more competent and controllable.

5. Yeah trump is just like a boil, all red and inflammed and irritating, and highly visible. You look at the boil and think that it’s the problem.

   Trouble is, behind him is a putrid infected absess that goes deeeeep, and will need surgery to remove and clean before the healing can begin.
