  6. Anyone justifying this verdict that lets someone who was instrumental in the inciting of the troubles and in killing innocent protestors simply demanding equal rights has no leg to stand on when it relates to peace.

I’m actually okay with the verdict in terms of it being hard to prove beyond reasonable doubt that a given individual did specific things over 50 years ago, but it’s obvious what Gav is doing here – it’s ‘yeeeow, the Paras won, Themmuns lost.’ And there’s no ‘rewriting’ being attempted by the families – their loved ones were unarmed and gunned down by the Paras, no doubt over that.

  43. If the shoe was on the other foot and Irish soldiers had carried out something like this on Unionist people I would support the Unionist people seeking justice because it was wrong and it was murder. How can people be so hateful.

    It drags down the soldiers who did not commit these crimes too because you are basically saying that there is no standard or limits to the way you behave. Why try and be a good soldier and not murder innocent people when someone like this will support you no matter what way you behaved.

  48. I think most people knew this would be the result, not because he’s innocent but what evidence they had was full of holes because the RUC and the MOD never properly investigated at the time.

    He’s not innocent of killing people they just couldn’t prove it was him. There were 3 soldiers there and they shot the bullets. They just don’t know what bullet shot who.

    I think most people have handled it with great dignity.
