I wanted to try the Kiselo Mlyako (kиceлo мллкo) yoghurt since it's a product of Bulgaria, there were several of them with the date 19/10/2025 so at first I thought this was the production date, but now I think it was just expired, am I right? If so, who should I contact to inform this since I'm not at the city I bought this and inform the supermarket personally is not an option anymore?

  3. FYI the expiry date often doesn’t mean that the food will necessarily go bad on that day. Sometimes it can be days/weeks after it. So as long as it smells/tastes/looks normal, it’s fine.

  4. Modern Kiselo Mlyako tends to last a lot longer than the expiration date. Make it yourself, and it only lasts 2-3 days.

    You’ll live.

  5. Nothing wrong with it. I sometimes leave it outside so it gets a little bit more sour in taste.

  6. If it didn’t taste spoiled, there shouldnt be a problem. I’ve eaten yogurt days past the expiration date plenty of times.

    It’s best to have the habit of watching the expiration date when you buy the food.

  7. Bulgarian Yogurt has a Best before date, not Expiration date. If stored properly and unopened it can last to 1-3 weeks past the printed date. If opened, it should be consumed within 5-7 days.

  13. Don’t bother to inform anyone, they probably know. The real Bulgarian Kiselo Mlyako is not produced any more. It used to spoil in a few days, now if you refrigerate the yogurt they sell it is good for months, no matter the brand. They changed the bacteria, in the past it was produced only using Lactobacillus bulgaricus, now I doubt it is even present in the mix. The only way to taste the original is DIY

  14. When I buy kiselo mlyako (sour milk), I always leave it for a couple of days outside the fridge so it really gets kiselo (sour).

    Otherwise it tastes like I’m eating plain cream.

  15. You’ll be fine and most likely the Kiselo Mlyako you ate was just as good as it was on the day of production. Many years ago I had a friend that was giving me 1-2-5 days expired dairy products; I ate tons of them and never ever had a problem.

  16. You’ll be fine. You could inform a manager or something but they’ll give the workers hell about it, maybe even take away from their salary, which wouldn’t be very nice.

  19. I know from a friend in the industry that many brands have to actually undershoot their expiration date because otherwise people in Bulgaria believe that they do have a lot of conservants inside the yoghurt

  20. It is not expired it just tastes like that. Its an acquired taste like “rakia” and “boza”😀

    On the label of the yogurt, it should clarify what that date means

  24. The exp date on packages is not the last day they will be edible. It is according to the manufacturer the date until they will be safe to eat to… allegedly.

    But it is usually faaaar less, because of … you know… money reasons.

    I had one sauce that I had home, that was expired 2 years ago. On the package it said to use for max a week after opening. It was more than 2 years since I opened it, but it was still perfectly fine. Smelled, looked and tasted as if it was brand new.

  25. Basically, yoghurt is milk that has already “gone off”. Unless it’s gone mouldy, you’re fine.
