Cancelling the memorials of our fallen brave.
Seems about right for 2025 UK. The country has forsaken its great traditions.
Sounds like bad planning and communication rather than anything particularly insidious.
I have to wonder who Council officials are truly working for.
They never ever seem to be working for the local people they represent.
Terrible excuse for cancellation
It’s funny but the other seven parades on the Wirral managed to provide the risk assessment and road closure request documents needed.
They are going ahead as normal.
I never would have predicted the ability to get insurance would be one of the biggest effects of terrorism, but it makes sense in hindsight.
Every article I read on here follows the same pattern.
Old people complain that authorities aren’t magic. The British Legion can’t pay the insurance so they want the council to?
Like councils are sitting on loads of free cash? Councils are all struggling and they’re responsible for social care and waste disposal. They don’t have loads of money sitting around for this shit.
Are they meant to take money from a local school? The local care homes??? So they can host a march no one cares about enough to raise money for?
The British Legion manage to do this loads of other marches. Because other local branches actually plan, organise and fundraise – instead of just going to the torygraph to blame the council for not buying you insurance.
I mean, it definitely sounds much more like they don’t have the money to cover it, the police aren’t gonna do it for free and the council isn’t giving them the money. Other places in the area, the parades are all going along fine.
Seems much more like, if the people round there think it is that important, they need to fundraise for it? Speak to some of the other places round the Wirral and see what they wrote in their risk assessment and reapply?
But nah, let’s complain to the paper and give the local reform candidate a soapbox instead. Why actually do anything practical?
If there are only four active members of the Upton Royal British Legion, they would be better off joining forces with another branch to have a parade.
And next year Martyn’s Law kicks in for these events
