Why “Dimming the Sun” Might Be the Most Dangerous Climate Fix Yet

1. We’ll fight the sun before we reconsider capitalism. 

2. We don’t know who blotted out the sun, us or the machines…

3. I mean are we actually considering this?

4. Wouldn’t dimming the sun be bad for plants? Wouldn’t this set off a cascade of food shortage for us and everything that eats plants?

5. The real question as best as I can tell is how bad will the side effects be from 1°C cooling using aerosol? What I’ve seen the side effects are pretty manageable and the benefits are pretty strong and we probably don’t deter a lot of our efforts towards that zero.

6. This is literally the starting premise of The Matrix. 

7. We’ve already messed up the atmosphere to the point of no return where is the harm in a little solar radiation management!?

9. Let’s not act like this is a new proposal. Crazy yes, but not new.

   This has literally been in the list of possible interventions since the idea of greenhouse gas based claimed change was first theorized.

   Personally, I think it’s just a matter of time before a nation that has decent rockets and with significant exposure to heat and sea level rise does it unilaterally.

   I mean, it’s not more crazy than dumping unknown amounts of greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere…

10. The sun is getting gradually brighter on geologic timescales. I’m not saying it’s the cause of warming today, but we will have to block some of it eventually.

11. Given our inability to solve the climate crisis. How long will it be before humans get tired of this magical impossible fix and start thinking that climate change was fake and stop funding this bullshit solution?

    Pretty quickly, probably within a generation. In the mean time we keep on polluting like the world will never end. Then this thing fails and we all burn to death
