  1. SS: Taiwan’s President Lai Ching-te said Israel is a model for Taiwan in strengthening its defense, comparing Taiwan’s struggle against China to David versus Goliath.

At an event hosted by the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, he praised Israel’s determination and said Taiwan should follow its example of peace through strength.

Lai also said Taiwan’s new “T-Dome” air defense system was inspired by Israel’s Iron Dome and called for closer Taiwan-US-Israel cooperation.

  2. The Taiwan-Israel relationship is so interesting to me. Both are small countries surrounded by or next to much larger countries that would see them destroyed and absorbed/assimilated. Both are vibrant democracies and high-tech centers that are critical to the global tech economy, but are otherwise weak in natural resources. Both count the US as a major (if not the most important) ally. And while their different struggles have nothing to do with each other and they sit on opposite sides of the globe, their shared US relationship often makes them bedfellows, even when there are other complicating factors (Chinese investment in Israel and the Middle East in general is growing and Israel has no direct beef with China, only through its alliance with the US).

As two small outposts of democracy in unfriendly regions, their struggles often put them in the same corner even if you wouldn’t expect it.

  3. Citing History, the people of Taiwan should expect the Europeans to fight as hard for Formosa as they did for Macau and Hong Kong…

China will simply wait for the West to lose interest. If they didn’t fight for their own cities, they’re not going to intervene in a Chinese civil war.

  4. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think geographically Taiwan and Israel are pretty similar. Both are small, surrounded by larger and more numerous enemies.

The fact that both Israel and Taiwan are geographically small means they can greatly help each with defense.

What I mean is: Israel’s defenses might not be the right fit for Ukraine due to Ukraine’s massive size and Israel’s defenses being designed to protect small areas – but they could be a right fit for Taiwan.
