Emily Maitlis has claimed the Prince of Wales threatened to remove Princess Beatrice and Eugenie’s titles if they did not persuade their father to leave Royal Lodge, despite no such meeting taking place.

Maitlis, the former BBC journalist who interviewed Prince Andrew in 2019, told listeners of her podcast that Prince William met with his cousins to issue an ultimatum last week.

Buckingham Palace has made it clear that the status of Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie has not changed since Prince Andrew announced he would no longer be using his Duke of York title.
Palace sources have said “the girls”, as they are known in royal circles, are “wholly unaffected” and will be welcomed to family occasions, including Christmas, as usual.

Princess Beatrice is currently working overseas.

But sources close to both the Prince and the Princesses deny the existence of any meeting.
The Prince also does not have the power to remove their titles, or to ask Parliament to do so.

  2. What else is the palace going to say? That said, I don’t believe any unnamed royal sources because if it’s true say it with your chest out. I’m fed up with Camilla, Will and the rest pretending that they aren’t talking to the press via intermediaries

  3. I don’t think William has any relationship with eugenie but both W&K are close to Edo and Bea, so i cant believe him threatening her or whatever.

  5. I do believe Maitlis. I recall it was reported that Wills and Harry denied bullying claims (Wills bullying the Sussexes) and it was later revealed this was a unilateral reporting from Wills.

    IMO Wills has it in him to snipe at people, but is incredibly sensitive to reporting about this.

    Remember Beatrice was in the infamous interview room and very involved with Maitlis and her producer. Emily definitely does have sources.

    I can’t believe he’d want to ever do that, but hypothetically…….
    I realize it’s two different systems, but since Queen Margrethe removed the princely titles from her grandchildren, I’ve wondered how easy is this to do? Is it on the whim of the sovereign, or are there channels to go through. It seems rather punitive and alienating.

    They probably saw people took it as a petty move on William’s part instead of a power move, and so now they’re denying it.

    Maitlis has kept things pretty unbiased (all things considered, given she had one of the biggest royal interviews of the past 20 years…) so I believe her.

  10. Seems like William and his team thought this would go over well (like it usually does when it’s reported he will strip Harry, Meghan, Archie & Lili) but backpedaled when it didn’t land.

  11. Seems like someone leaked this to the press in an attempt to further the William taking a hard stance against Andrew narrative but it backfired and made him seem petty so now they’re trying to walk it back
