A Reform UK group is holding a public meeting to discuss to use a military site to temporarily house asylum seekers.
The Sussex Weald branch of Reform UK took to social media to invite residents to a meeting tomorrow (Thursday, October 30) at Crowborough Community Centre.
The Home Office confirmed on Monday that Crowborough Training Camp in Sussex and Cameron Barracks in Inverness would be used to house about 900 men temporarily.
The move has proven to be controversial with Conservative MP for Sussex Weald Nus Ghani calling the plans “wholly inappropriate”. She has launched a petition in a bid to stop the scheme going ahead.
Sussex Weald Reform said it was “not the news I wanted to wake up to” in a post on social media.
“Our MP, Nusrat Ghani, previously said there had been no communication to her — and all local councils failed to respond to my open letter.
“This is completely unacceptable. Crowborough does not have the infrastructure, resources, or security to cope with hundreds of illegal migrants.
“Reform UK Sussex Weald opposes this in the strongest possible terms.”
The two-hour meeting is a “chance for local residents to come together, hear information, and share their thoughts”, the group has said.
