OPEM, the Energy Market Operator of Moldova, begins registering participants for organised electricity markets, including the Day-Ahead Market (DAM) and the Intraday Market (IDM) on 27 October.
The registration is open to all entities interested in trading electricity on the markets administered by OPEM. Detailed information regarding registration procedures, required documentation, and deadlines is available on OPEM’s official website.
The creation and operationalisation of short-term electricity markets are necessary to enable future coupling with neighbouring electricity markets and, in particular, integration into the European markets.
In Moldova, 96 companies hold electricity supply licences, while currently only three suppliers operate in the competitive (unregulated) market, with market shares of 1.52 oer cent, 0.14 per cent, and 0.34 per cent, respectively. Following the launch of organised markets, the market share of suppliers in the unregulated electricity segment is expected to increase significantly.
OPEM is a subsidiary of OPCOM Romanian gas and electricity market operator. It was appointed as the electricity market operator in Moldova by government decision at the beginning of 2024.
