Pokrovsk part of last major defensive arc stopping Russia from seizing Donbas • FRANCE 24 English

Russia is closing in on Picrosoft. The city in Ukraine’s east was once home to 60,000 inhabitants. Today, it is a strategic focus of the war. The road and rail hub is on a critical road to several cities, including the Ukrainian strongholds of Katossk and Slavansk. Take them and Russia could take all of Daetsk, further securing Vladimir Putin’s goal of seizing the entire Donbass region. and the Russian president is feeling confident of his military’s advances. The overall situation in the area of the special military operation is developing in our favor. In two locations in the city of Kukansk and the city of Prosk, the enemy was blocked and surrounded. Putin claimed on Wednesday that he would be willing to pause fighting temporarily in Picrosoft and open a safe corridor for Ukrainians and Western journalists. The Institute for the Study of War analyzed geoloccated footage from October 28th and 29th that showed Russian forces advancing in Picrosoft, but disputed Russian claims that they are on the cusp of imminently taking the territory. Ukraine has since strengthened its defenses in the area and President Womi Zilinski has acknowledged the difficult situation. There, as in previous weeks, is the greatest intensity of fighting and a strong concentration of Russians. The occupiers are trying to gain a foothold by all methods. Every occupier we destroy there is a result for our entire state. The industrial and mineralrich Bonbass region made up of Donetsk and Luhanks has long been coveted by Russia. At the Alaska summit with US President Donald Trump in August, Putin made Russian control of the region a central condition for ending the war.

Ukraine’s army chief said Thursday that Russian troops are intensifying its attacks on the eastern stronghold of Pokrovsk and that they are strengthening its defences to repel the attacks – but that the military’s main priority is to save the lives of its soldiers. Alongside the Ukrainian controlled cities Kramatorsk and Sloviansk, Pokrovsk forms part of the last major defensive arc holding back Russia from seizing the entire Donbas region.

  1. I bet the fight would be over already if the Russians didn't treat POWs as they do. Treating POWs according to the Geneva Conventions gives enemy fighters incentive to surrender.

  10. It's impossible to defeat nuclear russia.. better to get some permanent settlement. UK boris johnson spoiled the peace settlement and now ukraine lost huge land
