Israel’s top military prosecutor resigned Friday, admitting she was responsible for leaking a video showing soldiers assaulting a Palestinian detainee at a notorious military detention center, according to excerpts of the letter published by Israeli media.
The admission has embroiled the prosecutor, Military Advocate General Maj. Gen. Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi, in a firestorm of criticism from the right-wingers dominating Israeli politics who say her actions betrayed the state.
The chain of events shows how a prosecutor such as Tomer-Yerushalmi, whose office is viewed by many human rights groups as being too soft on the wartime conduct of Israeli soldiers, faces heavy pressure from Israeli politicians to refrain from aggressively prosecuting alleged wrongdoing. It also follows broader attempts by the country’s political leaders to overhaul a judicial system that they see as an obstacle to government policies.
The leaked video was aired last year by Israel’s Channel 12 and purported to show an incident in which soldiers at the Sde Teiman detention facility in southern Israel had sodomized a Palestinian detainee from Gaza.
In her resignation letter Friday, Tomer-Yerushalmi said that she had leaked the video to counter the criticism that the military was prioritizing Palestinian detainees over Israeli troops.

How a Leaked Video of a Notorious IDF Detention Center Could Help Netanyahu Take Down Israel's Democracy (Haaretz)
The implications of the 'Sde Teiman affair,' whose protagonists include the IDF's top prosecutor, a right-wing mob, Palestinian detainees, Israel's Channel 12 TV and Itamar Ben-Gvir's failed police force, are so wide-ranging they could help Netanyahu's crusade against Israel's core democratic institutions
The investigation into the leaking of the video and the multiple lies that the top military prosecutor told along the way are playing into the hands of the government in its crusade against Israel's independent judiciary.
Netanyahu and his minions are already using the news to make a sweeping argument against all parts of the judicial system, and to renew their calls for firing the independent and fearless attorney general, Gali Baharav-Miara.
some members of the government are now using her actions as an excuse to try and shut down the original Sde Teiman investigation, and let those suspected of abusing Palestinians walk away unscathed, calling any scrutiny a "blood libel" against the IDF.

Good on her for leaking it. The world needs to see Israel’s atrocities.
I do find her purported reasoning bizarre.
“In her resignation letter Friday, Tomer-Yerushalmi said that she had leaked the video to counter the criticism that the military was prioritizing Palestinian detainees over Israeli troops”
She was worried people thought they were treating Palestinian detainees too well so she released a video of one being assaulted??
She released the video to prove that the IDF WERENT being easy on the Palestinian prisoners?
What a evil vile society that raping someone is seen as good ?!
>A member of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud party, speaking Monday at a meeting of lawmakers, justified the rape and abuse of Palestinian prisoners, shouting angrily at colleagues questioning the alleged behavior that anything was legitimate to do to “terrorists” in custody.
>Lawmaker Hanoch Milwidsky was asked as he defended the alleged abuse whether it was legitimate, “to insert a stick into a person’s rectum?”
>”Yes!” he shouted in reply to his fellow parliamentarian. “If he is a Nukhba [Hamas militant], everything is legitimate to do! Everything!”

The Israelis with any shred of humanity left are being bullied and forced to remain silent. Exposing the actions of Israel is considered a greater crime than killing and molesting human beings. Try not to think about the Israeli crimes that aren’t documented and are successfully covered up.
If Bibi succeeds in removing the judicial branch of govt in Israel, god help us. Benjamin, you are from Brooklyn. Get your ass back here and knock this shit off.

Their problem is not IOF actions, but the fact that she exposed Israel treatment of the Palestinians in their prisons. Classic Nazi. Human rights are overrated in this country, and then they claim that they are a “civilized” country.
Some context for those interested.
When the soldiers who took part in the assault were called for questioning a mass riot by the Israeli far-right was orchestrated. During that riot citizens breached into a military base to stop the wheels of justice.
The far right said it was “the left” just prosecuting soldiers for no reason.
After the protest she leaked the video showing they had actual proof of the assault.
Consider one singular thing.
If she hadn’t leaked it.
#every single pro Israeli morally bankrupt ghoul would be here denying it, covering for it or lying about it.
And finally.
With it’s leaking guess what option they have chosen? Not one of introspection or reevaluation.
Nope.
They excuse it and/or support it.
