Denmark, together with the Netherlands, calls on other EU member states to contribute to the restoration of Ukraine’s cultural heritage in light of the ongoing Russian attacks.
This was stated by Denmark’s Minister of Culture Jakob Engel-Schmidt during an informal meeting of EU culture ministers in Copenhagen.
“All European countries have gathered in Denmark with the aim of supporting the Ukraine Recovery Fund. I am very glad that together with the Netherlands Denmark has made the first step by providing financial support for Ukraine’s cultural restoration,” Engel-Schmidt emphasized.

Context of the meeting and Denmark’s position
Engel-Schmidt noted that Denmark is ready to help in rebuilding Ukrainian culture in the event of any further destruction by Russia.
“I hope to persuade my colleagues to do the same as Denmark and the Netherlands – to send clear and concrete financial support for Ukraine’s cultural restoration,” the minister said.

During the meeting they also discussed the importance of the cultural sector for Ukraine’s national security and resilience. On November 3 in Copenhagen, an informal meeting of Europe’s culture ministers took place, at which Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Culture Tetiana Berezhna were invited.
Ahead of the event, Berezhna stressed that culture cannot be funded on a residual basis, as this is a matter of national security and Ukrainian resilience.
