And why is it always some pre-teen riding it recklessly in the middle of the road? End of rant.

  1. Idk but they ugly ass hell 💀💀💀
Would rather own a grandma bike

  2. oh like all the the Honda Wallaroos back in the day?

  3. Kids find these cool, we’re just old. It’s the “Why are they skating on our sidewalks!!” but they got lazier, fatter and spoiled

  4. In the Netherlands there’s an obligation to wear a helmet for under 16s. All of a sudden, they became less cool.

(This decision followed an increase in head injuries in accidents with these atrocities)

  5. The main issue of those is that a lot of them (are able to) ride without pedaling. This is illegal if they don’t have a licence plate.

  6. Same bad trend as in the Netherlands I suppose. With the cheapest models already available at ~900 euros we can expect to see more and more of them. And of course they’ll be operated by an age group that’s still reckless, doesn’t sufficiently know traffic rules yet and thinks they’re untouchable.

I can just hope this means fewer of those noisy two-stroke scooters on the road. That’s the only silver lining I can think of.

  7. To be honest, i prefer these over loud and smelly scooters.

  8. People too lazy to use their muscles to move around.
I hate them with a passion.

  9. It doesn’t really matter what kind of bike someone rides, does it? I’d try to worry a bit less about things in life.

  10. It’s now even easier to identify marginalen on the road

  12. annoying yes, but I greatly prefer them over mopeds with a combustion engine. And those riding it are the same people.

  13. They’ll disappear soon enough. They’re just fad bikes.

  14. I once saw a kid ride on a fat bike that couldn’t have been older than 10, when he stopped at the traffic lights he had to jump off the thing because his feet couldn’t reach the ground.

I doubt his parents knew because it looked incredibly dangerous.

But the primary concern is that it’s too easy to enable a motor-only mode.

  15. fatbikes – they look sort of cool, they ride quite comfortably.

my kid has one since she has osgood schlatter – a temporary growing defect in her knee.

she still has to pedal but doesn’t need to use force

  17. Almost had a head to head collision with one of these yesterday. This kid thought it wouldn’t be necessary to follow the rules and was ghost riding on my lane. I gave him a good horn and shined my headlights on him. I think he had to go back home to get fresh pants 🤣. Let’s hope he won’t do that again.

  18. as horrible as they are, I prefer them over the loud scooters, so just remember, each one of these replaces those obnoxious little machines :).

  19. Don’t mind the thing itself as much, mostly the lack of regulation. It goes fast, does so quietly (as opposed to your classic moped) and should follow the same regulations as mopeds. There shouldn’t be children driving these. They need a license and license plate. Then it’ll be fine.

  20. I really really want to complain because I hate these bicycles so much 😡. But then I remember my moped did almost 80km/h, brakes was never a priority and the whole neighborhood had to wake up when I drove to school ….

  21. The main problem with these is that they “should” for all intends and purposes be concidered scooters. Class A or B depending on the speed. The same is true for E-steps and the likes. it’s a motorized vehicle driving under its own propulsion if desired.
But, they don’t have a “gelijkvormigheidsattest” because they are considered bikes
Because of this they are not subject to all of the rules that apply to scooters like having mandatory insurance, needing a helmet to be driven, needing to be over 16 to actually drive one of these, and needing a plate.

The solution should be a simple one. Categorize any vehicle with the capability of propulsion without manual paddling as “scooter” with all the rules that apply.

  22. It’s a device without AI, with controllers without much Intelligence tout court. The best prompts for it are: “hey, leuke kleuterbrommer zeg! Wil je een spel kaarten en een wasspeld zodat hij ook geluid maakt zoals een brommertje?” Or “wauw, zo stoer zeg, ik zou je op je hoofdje willen aaien maar ik ben bang dat je Brocolli-coupe dan niet meer mooi ligt”

It will become a big thing, like in the Netherlands, and then accidents will happen and they will try to stop them.

En in the meantime, keep on breathing!

  24. They are cheap and look cool. Latest version of youths on mobiletten.

  25. It’s everywhere in Australia, mostly used for deliveries. I kinda like it, mad max kinda vibe

  26. As a traditional cyclist, I used to really look down on these until I realized that they’re actually allies in the mobility change. They’re mostly used by a group that would traditionally be against two-wheeled mobility and go for motorized vehicles.
I do agree that they can be dangerous, that they are used mainly by a certain demographic, and that they should be properly regulated, of course.

  27. Let’s broaden the discussion, raise your hand, who hates e-steps?

  29. It’s the wallaroo of today

Looks ugly and goes fast with little effort (compared to some other electric bikes)

But a lot safer than an electric scooter and with less noise than a wallaroo

  30. Honestly I think these things are great. It is better than loads of people getting cars.

The huge problem is the lack of regulation and police action enforcing those regulations.

If you drive dangerously with these then the police should take them away immediately, no warning.

  31. I dont know in your contries, but an explanation for France :
    – No learning lessons, driver licences and insurance till those bike ride less than 25Km/h.
    – Easy to sell cause vendor dont have to make a plate number.
    – Once aquired, easy to modify for ride faster than 25Km/h, even if it’s illegal.
    – Cheaper than any motored vehicule that required licence.

  32. It is American style. They call it e-bike. While it is e-moped.

Pedals are for decoration to hide the presence/use of throttle. No law informant on those here, so they are in use just as electrical bicycles.

  33. I just call them “vetfiets” my kid already thinks of them as cringey because of it.

  34. Purchasing this is for the overcompensation of a certain phallic object, so that you can feel better about yourself and look “cool” and get attention that you didn’t get from home…

  35. If the driver follows the rules this is a nice thing, much better than the 2 stroke noise making things or cars with 1 person to drive 5km to work and back lazy ones.
