The National Day Laborer Organizing Network is calling on the Los Angeles Dodgers to break tradition and decline a visit to the White House following their World Series victory, urging the team to take a stand on immigrant rights.

The National Day Laborer Organizing Network (NDLON), among other groups, are urging the Los Angeles Dodgers to break from traditional customs of champion sports teams visiting the White House after a victory. The appeal comes after the recent World Series win from the Dodgers and amid heightened tensions around immigration enforcement in Southern California.

The NDLON is using its social media platforms to draw attention from the Dodgers and encourage them to take a stand.

“The Dodgers represent all of us — a city built by immigrants and working families,” said NDLON. “We are asking them to stand with Los Angeles and not visit the White House.

As of Wednesday morning, more than 4,000 people have signed the petition circulating online that asks fans of the Dodgers to join the plea for the team to decline a visit to the White House.

This petition also points to the Dodgers’ ties to the immigrant community, particularly given the team’s ownership connection to companies involved in ICE detention facilities. Advocates are arguing that this presents an opportunity for the Dodgers to make a clear statement about their values and their support for the immigrant community in Los Angeles.
