Armenia has allowed the departure of a Belarusian citizen who was placed on an international wanted list at the request of the Belarusian authorities on political grounds. The news was reported by the press service of the deputy head of the United Transitional Cabinet and head of the National Anti-Crisis Management, Pavel Latushka.
In 2020, Natallia (name changed for security reasons) took part in peaceful protests and was part of the leadership of one of the online chat groups where Belarusians discussed the situation in the country. She was detained on political charges and, after interrogation, was forced to leave Belarus.
In 2025, while traveling, when Natallia landed in Armenia, she was informed that she could not leave the country because she was wanted internationally at the request of the Belarusian authorities.
The Office of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, Pavel Latushka, the Human Rights Centre Viasna, the BySol and ByHelp foundations, lawyer Mariya Kolesava-Hudylina, and the legal commission of the Coordination Council all spoke out in support of Natallia. Legal assistance in Armenia was provided by the Civil Verdict organization.
Latushka sent personal letters to the Armenian ambassador to Poland, Alaksandr Arzumanyan, requesting assistance. At the ambassador’s initiative, a phone conversation was held with Latushka, and contact was established with the Helsinki Committee of Armenia. The head of the NAU also appealed to the Office of the Prosecutor General of Armenia. As a result, after reviewing the case, the Armenian Prosecutor’s Office issued an official permit for the Belarusian citizen to leave the country.
Natallia has left Armenia and arrived in the European Union. She is now in a safe country together with her family.
