“It is regrettable that the Moldovan authorities continue to antagonize our country, denying everything related to our country, to the detriment of the interests of a significant part, if not the majority, of the population.
This is very bad. We can only express our regret,” the spokesman told reporters.
Peskov was commenting on the Moldovan government’s approval of a bill to denounce the agreement on the operation of the Russian Center for Science and Culture (also called the Russian House).
Earlier this Wednesday, Moldovan Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu announced that the government had approved denouncing the agreement with Russia on the establishment and operation of cultural centers in order to close the Russian Center for Culture and Science.
Relations between Russia and Moldova began to deteriorate after Moldovan President Maia Sandu, who pursues a pro-European policy, came to power in the republic in late 2020.
In turn, Moscow urged Chisinau to consider the interests of its own citizens and not hinder the development of people-to-people contacts and interregional ties with Russia.
The Russian Foreign Ministry called on Moldovan authorities to end confrontational and anti-Russian rhetoric in the country.
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, Moscow is ready to build friendly relations with Moldova and is not pleased that the West is using the country for anti-Russian purposes.
