That’s very interesting. If you want to be kind you could argue that it has to to be exponential, because in order to increase the number of students learning through Welsh you need to increase the number of working age Welsh speakers so that you can recruit enough teachers. But even given that, there’s no way this is going to get to 30% in five years.
With that said, if I were a young person now thinking that I might go into teaching, I’d want to make sure my Welsh skills were good because I’d almost certainly have a job for life.
As someone who is the only fluent welsh speaker in the family I hope more people learn welsh during school time
4% in 21 years is very poor. In Scotland, numbers aren’t moving much in Gaelic Medium Education either. Although there’s been a 100% increase since 2010, it still only about 2% of all pupils. The Government talks the talk but doesn’t put enough money into expanding it properly.
