“Among the pieces was the diamond crown of Empress Elisabeth (better known as Sisi), a cuff of brilliant-cut diamonds featuring a large emerald that Empress Maria Theresa used to wear for festive sleigh rides – and the legendary Florentine Diamond, a glorious, walnut-sized gemstone said to glow yellow.”
Yes, I too wear my largest gems when I go for a festive sleigh ride 🤣
All of that sitting there, and for decades the former Empress famously lived in near penury, relying on the hospitality of royal relatives and handouts from nostalgic monarchists.
They say Austria may reassert their claim to them as state treasures, and the family may not want that. I kind of think they *should* belong to the country.
Beautiful jewels 💎. Great story. Enjoyed it.
Otto von Habsbourg was MP in the EU parliament. I don’t think his descendants would want it back, but I am not sure they will be safe in Austria at this point .
Such beautiful piece of jewellaries. Hopefully, it will be placed in museum somewhere.
We had to pull it out of hiding to finance the jaw surgery.
