“If you look at Russia’s current capabilities and combat power, Russia could kick off a small-scale attack against NATO territory as early as tomorrow,” Sollfrank said. “Small, quick, regionally limited, nothing big as Russia is too tied down in Ukraine for that.”
While Sollfrank clarified he has no intelligence suggesting such an attack is being planned, he emphasized that Russia’s historical behavior and current leadership actions make such a scenario plausible, reports the Mirror.
The general projected that Russia could execute a full-scale assault on the 32-nation alliance by 2029 if its rearmament efforts continue at their current pace. Despite significant losses in Ukraine, he noted Russia’s air force maintains considerable combat capability, while its nuclear and missile arsenals remain intact.
“The ground forces are suffering losses, but Russia says it aims to boost its total troop numbers to 1.5 million soldiers,” he said.
“And Russia has enough main battle tanks to make a limited attack conceivable as early as tomorrow.”
