  1. Winning the war over the hijab seems small in context. It’s amazing news, but worrying. The regime is oppressive well beyond this specific patriarchal elements, and I wonder if these concessions are merely a way to entrench control while placating the masses.

  2. Iranian population is systematically more liberal and modern in comparison to Gulf Arab monarchies or nations such as Pakistan. Just take a look at number of female students at universities in Iran and numbers in Gulf Arab monarchies.

That being said, this aricle brings nothing new to light. Also internal Iranian protests happen every 4-5 years but the goverment stays.

  3. And now for a dose of reality: The Regime finds itself in an extremely weak state following the collapse of their “Axis of resistance” together with the pounding they took from Israel, and of course the renewal of the sanctions.

They are humiliated. The economy is suffering. The water crisis is worse than it ever was. And the regime knows they are deeply unpopular, perhaps more than ever.

So they give up on certain issues. They cancelled their plan to shut down the free internet. They loosen some Hijab restrictions. They allow a “Reformist” president to be “Elected”.

But it’s all just an act. The truth is they are scared. And they are hoping that easing some restrictions will prevent the population from revolting. And on the other hand, they also increased the amount of executions to new records, making sure people know about both the carrot, and the stick.

And the unfortunate thing is, it seems to be working.

But mark my words. As soon as Iran will find itself in an improved situation internally and/or geopolitically, it will all be coming back, worse and brutal than ever.
