Vice President JD Vance gave his boss, President Donald Trump, and the rest of the GOP some advice after Tuesday night’s party losses across the country.
“We need to focus on the home front,” Vance said in a social media post, per Fox News. “The president has done a lot that has already paid off in lower interest rates and lower inflation, but we inherited a disaster from Joe Biden and Rome wasn’t built in a day. We’re going to keep on working to make a decent life affordable in this country, and that’s the metric by which we’ll ultimately be judged in 2026 and beyond.”
Democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani won the New York mayoral election on Tuesday, while Democrats also won closely-watched gubernatorial races in New Jersey and Virginia.
The Democrats also scored in judicial races in Pennsylvania.
That said, Vance wrote, “I think it’s idiotic to overreact to a couple of elections in blue states.”
Affordability and the economy were top priorities for voters in Tuesday’s races.
Mamdani has called for free mass transit, rent freezes and city-run grocery stores as ways to help New Yorkers cut costs.
Fox News Voter Poll data found that New Jersey voters ranked the Garden State’s high taxes and the economy as their top two issues.
The poll data found that half of voters in Virginia said that the economy was their top priority.
New York City voters ranked affordability as their top concern, the Fox News Voter Poll data found.
Sky News said that Vance’s comments were an indication that the president, who has been focused on Gaza and the Russian war with Ukraine, “needs to get back to his base.”
One Vance supporter posted on X: “It’s time for Trump to stay home. Enough foreign trips, enough peace talks. He needs to spend the next year fully focusing on the mid terms and at the same time game planning for turning the last 2 years of his administration over the JD Vance and let him shine in front of America.”
