In case other people don’t know what is “rent pressure zones”, it’s another word for “rent control”.
[Rent control in ALL of Ireland](https://www.housingagency.ie/rent-pressure-zones) is capped at the lower of 2% or Ireland’s annual inflation rate.
What exactly were these rent pressure zones supposed to achieve? Because it doesn’t look like they had any effect on stopping rent increasing?
Is this monthly rent? This doesn’t sound right to me? I currently pay the equivalent of 1700 euros a month for a **three-bedroom apartment** in **Oslo!**
I can hardly believe Dublin would be more expensive than Oslo, especially by this much!
Price? Of what? Rent? Cost to buy? What am I supposed to take away from this graph?
Insanely expensive! What about median, as another poster said? Is that lower? And it would be interesting to see the same dates labelled for each series, unless the ones that are labelled now are significant in some way.
1300-1800 for a fucking 1 bedroom? Granted that is an average, but that is wild.
Rent control doesn’t make rents affordable. It creates winners (the lucky ones that get a rent controlled unit) and losers (everyone else).
Looking at this data, I’m convinced Dublin landlords are using a different currency – one where “affordable” translates to “sell a kidney.”
