Moldova has officially opened its search for the country’s representative at the 70th Eurovision Song Contest.
Revamp of the national final
Artists can submit their songs between November 7 and December 7 by emailing their entries to eurovision@trm.md.
Once the submission period ends, TRM and the production team will evaluate all received songs and compile a longlist for live auditions. Unlike previous years, these auditions will not be televised, marking the first time since 2015 that the process will take place privately. From these sessions, 5 to 10 acts will be chosen to advance to the national final.
The final show is scheduled for January 17 at the Chișinău Arena. A 20-member jury will determine the outcome, made up of five international and fifteen Moldovan professionals. The winner will be decided through an equal split: 33% international jury, 33% Moldovan jury, and 33% public vote.
Moldova’s Eurovision journey
Moldova is relatively new to the Eurovision Song Contest, joining in 2005. Their debut entry, Zdob și Zdub, finished in 6th place, which had remained their highest scoring entry up until 2017. They were dethroned by returners Sunstroke Project and the song ‘Hey Mamma’, which finished in 3rd place. At the close of voting, Moldova received 374 points.
After representing Moldova in 2007, Natalia Barbu returned to Eurovision in 2024 with the song “In the Middle”. She received 20 points in the first semifinal, ultimately placing thirteenth and missing out on the grand final.
