The story of the ICC trying to prosecute Israeli wartime leaders keeps getting more tangled.
Here’s what’s known so far. Prosecutor Karim Khan ignored the ICC’s usual investigation rules. Even though Israel had agreed to cooperate and let ICC investigators visit, he suddenly canceled their flight (The day of!) and went on TV the same day to announce arrest warrants for Israeli leaders. Something that had never happened before.
The move shocked a lot, including officials from Biden’s administration, who questioned the court’s fairness.
Later, reports surfaced that Khan had been accused of sexually assaulting a colleague. He allegedly tried to silence her, saying that if she spoke out, it would “Hurt Palestine”. And it is suspected that he rushed to issue the arrest warrants after realizing the story would come out anyway, hoping to take the heat off of himself.
Now, according to The Guardian, a source that is far from pro-Israel, Qatar reportedly hired a firm to investigate and discredit the woman who accused Khan, apparently to weaken her claims and protect his image.
Will any of this change how countries treat ICC decisions?
Will Qatar face any backlash, especially from those who usually defend victims of abuse but instead seem to hail the sexual abuser in this case as a hero just because he is attacking Israel?
And will the ICC stop for a moment to review its actions and credibility?
And will the so many haters of Israel take a breather and ask themselves, if ruining yet another important international institution’s credibility, just in order to cause slight problems for Israel, is worth it?
FYI, when this guy was first accused he literally said:
“You can’t do this to me right now while im trying to prosecute Israel”
Not denial, just straight up said hes too important right now
Now THIS is 4d chess
If they’re so sure Israel will be convicted of genocide, why tamper with the process like this?
If you scratch the surface—just a tiny bit—of any international institution that claims to uphold human rights, you will repeatedly uncover corruption. This happens over and over again. That is why I’ve always believed that human rights exist only in the collective imagination of humanity, rather than in reality.
As mentioned in the book Sapiens on p 27-28:
“Any large-scale human cooperation – whether a modern state, a medieval church, an ancient city or an archaic tribe – is rooted in common myths that exist only in people’s collective imagination.”
“Churches are rooted in common religious myths… States are rooted in common national myths… Judicial systems are rooted in common legal myths… Yet none of these things exists outside the stories that people invent and tell one another…”
>”There are no gods in the universe, no nations, no money, no human rights, no laws, and no justice outside the common imagination of human beings.”
