November the 9th, 2025 – The largest bus station in all of Croatia, Zagreb bus station, is finally undergoing full renovation works after nearly 40 years.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, after almost 40 years, Zagreb bus station, which is otherwise the largest bus station in Croatia, is being thoroughly renovated. It was construction on the eve of the Univerzijada, and up to five million passengers pass through it every single year.

The Zagreb bus station building is not only being renovated to modernise it, but it is also being adapted for people with disabilities. Three new lifts, a lifting platform, and 1000-metre-long tactile strips are currently being installed. The value of the works stands at 480,000 euros as things currently stand.

“For now, most of the tactile strips on pedestrian areas have already been installed. As for the new lifts, the shafts have been installed and preparatory work has been carried out, so we can expect these works to be completed by the end of the year,” explained Josip Krajina, head of the Zagreb Bus Station, to HRT.

Two sales counters are also being adapted as part of these extensive works. One has a system installed for people with hearing impairments, and the other has been lowered for passengers in wheelchairs. Part of the platform, where the lifts are being installed, is currently temporarily closed.

“Replacement platforms have been provided, so we don’t expect any difficulties with the regular flow of traffic,” assured Krajina as the works continue.
