Tehran faces water crisis as dam nears drying point • FRANCE 24 English

Now, the population of the Iranian capital, Thran, consumes around 3 million cubic meters of water every single day. The problem that there’s only enough left in the system to last two more weeks. State media now warning that the system will run dry then owing to an historic drought. The Amir Kabir Dam, which is one of five which provide drinking water for the capital, uh holds just 14 million cubic meters of water. That is 8% of its capacity. A little earlier we spoke to correspondent Simi in Thran. Right now my flat is uh out of uh running hot water. Uh I’m glad that it still has running water uh because I have been hearing from a lot of friends and family uh relatives uh that they have their water has been cut off since 12 uh since midnight to 7 a.m. So u it’s pretty bad into Iran right now. Uh last week uh the reserves in my apartment, we always keep reserves uh in case uh running water uh runs out. So the reserves also ran out. Uh the building manager asked us to um uh consume water a little bit um smart smarter than we usually do. Uh but that rules out a lot of activities such as washing dishes, uh the showering and a lot of stuff. It is not just hurting uh ordinary people as well. is also hurting um small business owners and even bakers who need water to mix the flour to make a dough and uh bake bread and give it to the before.

Tehran faces a critical water shortage as the Amir Kabir dam, a major source of the capital’s drinking water, holds only 8% of its capacity. Authorities warn the dam can supply water for just two more weeks due to a historic drought. FRANCE 24’s Saeed Azimi has the details from Tehran.

  1. All they need to do is hire all these genius hydrologists in this comment section! Crisis averted! 😂

  2. We should all be working together to build an artificial Mountain so that it snows on the top of the mountain and the snow produces a stream of water on the ground
The problem we're faced with today is a lack of cooperation

  3. I think it's the Jews' fault. I don't know why, but the Iranians are very inventive in blaming the Jews for their own mistakes. I have an idea: Israel destroyed Hezbollah's arsenals, so now, instead of solving the water problem, they need to work hard to restore their missile arsenals!!!

  4. All of that financial support given to Islamic terrorists around the world probably could have been used better.

  5. A dry climate far from a water source… looks like a great place for 10 million people. The American southwest is also on the same plan.

  6. The problem is 30 years ago they had a population of 10 to 15 million now they have a population of 100 million that's why they're running out😂

  7. Bad dam infrastructure, and govermetn refuse to fix it and decide to tap directly into underground aquifer. After years of tapping, it dried up and goverment cant afford desalination.
