After the defeat against Slovakia, the ÖEHV selection won the prestigious duel over Germany at the Germany Cup. Both Vinzenz Rohrer and Leon Wallner were able to collect three scorer points each.

It was a more than convincing performance from the ÖEHV selection. Right from the start, the coaching staff’s instructions were implemented almost perfectly and without errors – hard forechecking paired with straightforward play. As soon as the puck landed on the ice for the first time, German Phillip Sinn was given a two-minute penalty after he brought down Peter Schneider. The power play could not yet be used, even if Lukas Haudum tested Germany goalkeeper Dustin Strahlmeier for the first time after a cross pass from Peter Schneider. Shortly afterwards, Mario Huber put the disc dangerously into the slot, but the score initially remained 0-0. Atte Tolvanen had to intervene for the first time in the 4th minute.

Ten minutes later, Austria found itself outnumbered for the first time and they also appeared callous in the penalty killing. So much so that Paul Huber took the puck and served it to Vinzenz Rohrer, who drove alone towards Strahlmeier and scored to make it 1-0. The hosts could even be satisfied with this result after the first third.

In the 27th minute, a shot from Paul Stapelfeldt almost went into the goal, but instead of making it 2-0, Germany equalized in the 30th minute through Moritz Müller. And even though the home team missed two top-class chances immediately afterwards, the momentum remained with Austria. Leon Wallner played a perfect cross pass to Paul Huber who made it 2-1 in the 32nd minute.

Only 49 seconds had been played in the final period when it was Wallner himself who got on the scoresheet with a powerful shot. Austria survived two outnumbered games unscathed in the middle of the third period. In the 52nd minute, Dominic Hackl took heart, whose shot was unstoppably deflected by Vinzenz Rohrer to make it 4-1. The referees took a closer look at the hit, but ultimately decided that the hit counted.

At this point, the 4,200 fans in the sold-out Landshut Arena had already fallen silent, while the around 40 UFTA fans who had traveled along created a great atmosphere. This made Dominic Zwerger celebrate again in the 55th minute, who made it 5-1 in his 100th international match. Philipp Preto made sure the results were cosmetic.

For Austria, the 5-2 win is the first victory over the hosts in the Germany Cup.
