Belgium probes drone sightings after flights halted overnight • FRANCE 24 English

Near Latvia’s border with Russia, interceptor drones are taking to flight. Still in the training stage, in a matter of months, they’re expected to serve as a defense against Russian drones that cross into NATO airspace. What European defense ministers are calling a drone wall. So, the interceptor drone uses radar data to find targets in air. It catches up to those targets. At that point, the operator is asked to confirm interception. And uh from that point on, autonomously, the system catches up uh to the target and detonates. The interceptor drones have emerged as one possible deterrent as the EU scrambles to figure out how to respond to a series of mysterious drone sightings across the block. Since September, sightings at airports in Denmark, Germany, Norway, and Belgium have forced airports to temporarily close. Most recently at the international airport in Brussels on Wednesday, drone sightings overnight forced it to cancel dozens of flights, stranding hundreds of passengers. I’m Ukrainian and I’m very much concerned that now in the heart of Europe, we can see drones uh flying out of nowhere and we have uh we have no means to prevent that. Everyone suppose it’s Russia and I do as well. And then why are they doing it? what they want to provoke with this is strange and a bit worrying. It’s unclear if any of the most recent sightings could be linked to Moscow, but back in September, NATO aircraft shot down a swarm of Russian drones that had crossed into Poland’s airspace. And last month, Russian planes briefly violated NATO airspace over Lithuania and Estonia in separate incidents. Many years.

Belgian authorities on Wednesday investigated drone sightings that halted air traffic overnight at several airports, as flights resumed after hundreds of passengers were left stranded. The main airport in Brussels and another in Liege had to suspend arrivals and departures late Tuesday for several hours after suspected drones were spotted nearby. FRANCE 24’s Monte Francis reports.

  1. Maybe they can't bring them down, or find where they come from because they are not ' drones ' ! There is a ' three letter word ' which no one wants to mention or admit ..and where is the visual proof …?

  2. Not a word about similar unidentified drones over the USA and the United Kingdom in the past years. NO SUCH DRONE WAS EVER TAKEN DOWN. The same is happening now in Europe. Why is there no reporting about this on FRANCE 24 ??? You could say, this was observed back in the US in 2019 over ships 100 miles from Los Angeles. December 2023 over Langley AFB. December 2024 over New Jersey AND over US/UK bases Lakenheath. Gatwick airport had to close. Anti Drone weapons were used but…NO SUCH DRONE WAS EVER TAKEN DOWN. Please share this with your audience! Don't reinvent the wheel. Something strange is going on here!

  3. Did they know about Google panorama service before blames Russia just open it and will know who started drones 😅

  4. Airports have an automatic drone-shooting system along the fence, but apparently they don't work with these ghost drones. I wonder what radar signature they return when hit by the beam.

  5. There are NO Drones – Lights in the Sky does not mean its a Drone – They are mis-leading the Public to bring in new rules – Mis-leading and incompetent drone experts pushing this should hand their heads in shame ! Theres No evidence at all it's all mis-leading lies being pushed by Governments wanting to change rules and need something / one to blame ! Those delayed should sue Airports for lights in the Sky delaying flights with no proof of drones ! Can you please get proper drone experts and stop mis-leading the public in your news reports !!!
