Welsh Water just got its report card from Ofwat and it’s not good

  1. Not surprising at all. Theres a sewage drain near me that overflows and spreads toilet paper and shit all over the pavement every time it rains, no matter how often its reported, and there has been another leak pushing out a waterfall of water onto a major road near me that’s been going for over a year now.

They’re really not on the ball.

  2. My daughter was in the parade yesterday with her guide troop, so we went.

The parade finished as usual at the Cenotaph.

Or rather, the parade would have finished at the cenotaph if the area in front wasn’t’t blocked off
    With a sign saying:

“Apology: for your safety this area is closed. Due to the ongoing Welsh water / Dwr Cymru damaged mains on St Paul’s avenue water is leaking on the Memo arts centre Cenotaph area”

You’d think they’d pull their finger out and fix thenl leak before such an event. It was infuriating!

  3. There’s a couple of Welsh Water employees who work out the coffee shop I regularly work from and both are over employed (multiple jobs at once) and one runs their own businesses.

No wonder it’s a shit show when you have people taking the piss like this. When I questioned one about this they said a number of people there do it.

  4. There’s elements of this that Welsh Water need to resolve, and elements of wider society.

Thousands of homes are guilty of pushing more and more rainwater into the combined sewers. We need to handle water on our own properties better, including in summer when we can use it in our gardens instead of wasting energy on tap water for the garden.

But also the degree of disruption in replacing sewage system is huge. It’s deep, heavy work. There’s no easy way to upgrade a 2ft sewage main. It’s not like broadband and fibre Internet. It’s going to hurt. In the Llynfi Valley Dwr Cymru had to delay a water upgrade for new homes by 5 months because the level of traffic disruption was horrendous, so had to be moved to the Easter and then Summer holidays.

  5. I have not once been asked to pay water and not once has anyone ever attempted to send me a letter I’ll try to contact me in any way. I even checked to see if I can find a debt but there’s nothing. You could probably convince me it was not the real thing , people don’t have to pay for water .imagine how much money that company has wasted if there’s too many more like me

  6. £58 last year per month to £78 a month this year. Shocking increase.

  7. And to top that off they send millions each year to India as they have an IT contract with Infosys.

  8. It’s not just the CEO who should have his bonus stopped, a fine or wages reduced. Every shareholder should be told their profits will only continue once certain investments and improvements are met. This could be incrementally done so they know they will get full dividends once the service is up to standard.

  9. Welsh water employee have a compulsory 250ish hours over their contracted yearly hours. Not sure if this applies to all DCWW staff. They need to get rid of a lot of managers and employ a lot more operators and experienced engineers. They need to pay the wages it takes to do this. A lot of the work done for Welsh water is done by contractors. Could get far more done if they were more flexible with purchasing and employing good industrial tradesmen.

  10. The previous and current CEO of WelshWater should be ashamed of themselves but a big pay packet real helps then not care about how incompetent they are, how they run WelshWater into the gutters

  11. I don’t think any water company in the UK is getting a good report card but all of them are far too late. The previous government just let them get away with murder. Need to slam down on pollution and slack procedures. What I don’t understand is that WW is nit for profit so hasn’t been giving shareholders tons of cash like English Water companies. What have they been doing with it?

  12. I live in a village on the slopes of a valley. I’ve never had a supply interruption, water qulity is excellent and the sewer outside my house on the main road copes adequately even in heavy rain.

  13. 4 out of the last 5 days I’ve had a text saying sorry I may not have water or low pressure. Really not worth the money we’re paying. Plus I see so many leaks that are never fully repaired.
