***The Telegraph reports:***
Police arrested hundreds of suspects as they raided barbers, nail bars and vape stores in a nationwide crackdown on [high-street crime](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/crime/).
Every force in the UK took part in the co-ordinated operation, which targeted town and city centre shops suspected of being fronts for money laundering, [drug supply](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/drugs/), modern slavery and other offences.
A total of 2,734 premises were raided, 924 people were detained and more than £10m seized, along with with 70kg of [cannabis](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/cannabis/), 111,000 harmful vapes and four and a half million illegal cigarettes. More than 300 businesses were reported on suspicion of employing illegal migrant workers.
The operation was led by the National Crime Agency (NCA) supported by police, immigration officials, trading standards and His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs ([HMRC](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/hm-revenue-customs/)).
[Dan Jarvis](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/dan-jarvis/), the security minister, said: “Criminals are using these dodgy shops as fronts for serious organised crime, money laundering and illegal working, risking the future of the British high street.
“We have intensified our joint efforts with law enforcement to dismantle criminal networks and relentlessly pursue those who use dirty money for personal gain.
“Together we have seized millions in criminal assets, removed harmful drugs from our streets and arrested hundreds of criminals who are undercutting honest business owners.”

hardly scratching the surface really
but not the sunbed places
Why now? It’s been going on for years.
Heywood has 13 barbers/ hairdressers on one road within a mile of each other. I mean come on.
Every empty shop near me is now converting to a barbers or ice cream parlour. In lancashire. Where its cold 90% of the time.
Now pull over every rider for Deliveroo, Just eat etc and check their work eligibility status.
In your own time lads, it’s not like they’ve been around long is it ? They’ll still keep trading, maybe under a new limited company name from time to time & more will continue to open. The only people getting nicked are the ones behind the till & or in the flat upstairs. The main men just carry on as normal, they just replace the staff.
Can you do all of them? My small country town is 50% of money laundering shops.
If we know they are money laundering, can we let them but charge 95% tax 😂
