Tabloids getting ready for a feast

  1. Let’s be carefully not to conflate all critism of the BBC with this sort of behaviour. I think a public service broadcaster should exist, but not structured like the BBC is. Let’s not fall into the same trap some people fall into with the NHS, where critism is conflated with a desire to replace it with an American style system

  2. Let’s be honest here, the feeding frenzy wouldn’t be about to start if the BBC didn’t shoot themselves royally in the foot and sprayed their blood everywhere.

You can criticise the tabloids and the rags and all the talking heads but the blame for this can only be put at the (now sadly bulletridden) feet of the BBC.

  3. The BBC has a duty to uphold impartiality as a public organisation.

The current complaints have been by internal whistleblowers documenting years of ignored internal complaints and problems with broadcasting bias.

  4. Serves the BBC right for being a leftwing circle jerk all these years.

  5. BBC – Britain Bullshit Channel, don’t try and play victim now.

  6. As much as I’ve always scoffed at the BBC pile-on’s over the years, with this one you’re just left thinking…..come on guys, engage your brains, you’ve left yourselves pretty indefensible here.

  7. They tried to appease far right wingers living in an alternate reality, but only emboldened them. They did this to themselves by doing nothing to resist being stuffed with Tory yes men under “Boris”. And willingly serving as the right’s attack dog against politicians like Corbyn – for all the right wingers are delusionally whinging about their imaginary unfair treatment of Farage whose mug they won’t stop plastering all over the airwaves, the truth is they absolutely bend over backwards for his ilk by comparison.

They discredited themselves with the people who’d otherwise be most supportive of them by appealing to people for whom they won’t be good enough until they completely remove all non-straight, non-cisgender, and non-white people from the air and act like it’s still 1950. Just like Starmer himself really.

  8. A lot of woke people here. BBC needs punishment and re-structuring. 21,000 employees working there, that is insane. They have become a social justice warrior guild. They are trying to control the narrative. They should just tell the news and the people should form their own opinions not skewed by their political agenda and affiliation. What they done with Trump serves only as a precedence as I think this was not the exception but the rule.

  9. No doubt each of the tabloids will point out failings with the other tabloids and TV channels too, right?

How many times have the Daily Fail printed lies about Diana. Or the Torygraph forgetting they hired a racist. Or the Observer being a mouthpiece for the government. How about GBNews being an entertainment channel so they can pay Farage more than his MP salary, sidestepping the fact they are ‘reporting news’?

  10. BBC is outdated has been for years, license fee is an absolute disgrace, I think the whole of the bbc needs a reform and definitely scrap the fee

  11. So let’s take the power away from the predators and tell them we don’t care and to go away!

They need the public to be swayed by them, let’s tell them they don’t have any influence.

  12. Anyone want spoilers?

This escalates until someone gets the bright idea to propose that we start punishing *all* fake news *much* more harshly, and with much more stringent fact-checking…

… And then it’ll all go away, and we’ll go back to debating how lies are actually just Freespeech and nobody should be accountable for anything.

  13. Be a real shame if the BBC went bankrupt… all those amazing tv sho… oh wait.

  14. Love the BBC, rarely watch it. Glad to have it.

All the grotty rags they call tabloids, yeah shove them in skip and torch em all.

  15. As if everyone one of those outlets haven’t made similar blunders (intentional or not).

  16. The BBC need to be burned to the ground and replaced by an actual unbiased news

  17. The BBC does a few things really, really well, and some things better than any other.

That it’s almost 2026 and they’re still reliant on a license fee, and jackbooted cretins mailing out forests worth of threats weekly is enough to question the value, that they can’t seem to avoid the easiest of impartiality traps to avoid having navigated scandal after scandal is the icing on the cake.

They really need a ground up restructuring and to rely almost entirely on commercial activity as a funding source going forward so they can dump the dead weight, tighten up and move forward as a modern media enterprise. I don’t mind things like the FCO funding the world service and similarly viable sources of government funding, but license fees on the public just seem so archaic and obtuse in modern times.

They pull a couple of billion a year in largely through charging international viewers for Brit box, yet their nasty little tax on those who should have immediately reaped the benefits of a British public institution finding commercial viability internationally, is somehow essential.

I fear for their future, frankly. I’d hate to lose such a cultural institution that genuinely does a lot of good, but their approach of straddling a river of scandals with one foot in the past and the other precariously positioned doesn’t exactly instill confidence.

Walking themselves into a fight with the most fragile ego on earth who also happens to be incredibly litigious despite seeming like he’s all talk, and who also has an army of stupid on his team, while the threat of political retribution as he sees fit is always there … egads.

  18. I’m really not on board with everyone defending the BBC on this one. I am a lefty and dislike Trump as much as anyone else, but doctoring video footage is indefensible. It is about as fake news as you can get.

They deserve to be humbled for this. Trump and the right are so ridiculous nobody needs to tell a single lie to expose them, infact lying only helps them.

So many of the podcasts and media outlets I follow are all defending the BBC, saying it is unfair and clearly a mistake etc etc but I don’t agree in the slightest.

  19. turns out appeasement was not a good idea, perhaps they should have done a documentary on chamberlain instead?

  20. I don’t know what planet the folk complaining about left-wing BBC bias are living on. The BBC has been insanely deferential to the Conservatives for *years*. Constantly platforming Boris, Farage, etc. platforming conservative ‘think tanks’ as if they were intelligent, unbiased sources. They never held the government to account over 15 years of tory mismanagement and yet *now* they decide the BBC isn’t impartial enough?? Where was all this impartialty rage when they ACTUALLY DOCTORED a picture of Jeremy Corbyn in a flatcap to make it look like a ushanka then put him standing in front of the Kremlin. I don’t even like Corbyn but that was insane, made the BBC look like part of the Daily Mail.

  21. Hope the licence fee goes up, then I’ll save more money by not paying it.

  22. How many times has Trump lied about stuff? How comes it’s OK when he does it?

BBC gets some stuff wrong, but it’s ours, in generally it’s really good and it’s one of the last bastions of something that is truly British and truly good left worldwide. Personally I think we should defend it to the hilt and in a Love Actually style, tell Trump to get stuffed and that we don’t want to be friends with bullies.

Ok BBC did some dodgy editing but it didn’t materially change the facts – Trump HAS incited unrest multiple times.

How comes the UK or entities within it haven’t sued Trump or Musk or whatever over the libellous slander they regularly spout?

    Piss off Trump.
