We are paying the highest bills in the UK,
I am getting bit fed up being told that we need to invest in grid upgrades and infrastructure, when we were told over and over that privatization and competition would make sure we had best infrastructure. Instead we have seen all that money vanish into shareholders pockets and now we are being ask to pay to upgrade it all, while having pay triple the amount.
Anyone else bored of England's shite polices milking everything into the shareholders and super riches pockets. Cause I am. I am so fucken bored of being gaslit into everything else being blamed but the actually people taking everything not nailed down. Our country is being stripped mined of anything of value and we will be soon told the NHS needs to be private to bring the best quality of healthcare. I am done with English Rule and Millionaires and Billionaires stealing everything.

Of course we do – but remember, in the words of the UK Energy Security Secretary himself “it’s what’s fair for England” and that’s what counts to Unionist politicians and the kneepads brigade in Scotland
Privatising utilities was the biggest con ever inflicted upon the people of this country. In a just world people would have been jailed for it.
But this is our union benefit. Broad shoulders, etc.
It’s sickening when you see the amount of money these people are making at the expense of people who are already struggling. It’s repulsive.
“We don’t hate the English”
Scottish Nationalists.
>The average domestic electricity bill in southern Scotland has risen from £436 in 2008 to £1115 in 2024 [up by 155%], while northern Scotland experienced an even sharper increase from £423 to £1140 [up by 169%], according to analysis of UK Government figures by OHMS Renewables.
>It found that the sharpest rise was for direct debit customers in northern Scotland, whose bills have nearly tripled, up by 182%.
>That is compared with Northern Ireland, which has seen the lowest overall increase at 149.4%.
>On average across the UK, energy bills have gone up by 163% since 2008, with direct debit customers seeing the biggest increases at 181% across the period.
I’d love to see a breakdown of this analysis, but I can’t find it on the article or the OHMS website.
Edit – I’ve found [other articles](https://www.insidermedia.com/news/national/electricity-bills-increased-163-per-cent-since-2008-as-energy-price-cap-rises-research) with different breakdowns that are interesting to compare and contrast, but still no analysis!
Union dividend
In fairness, English energy bills are also wildly shit. Pointing at English bills and saying “we should have more of *that*” is still a huge lack of ambition.
They’re only up here a few months of the year in their holiday homes. I’m sure they don’t mind paying the higher prices before fucking off back to their shithole
I agree with this, but I also hate the SNP/Green stance on nuclear and domestic hydrocarbons.
France has cheaper energy largely because it has nuclear. It is great to secure a baseload. Instead we are looking to install a million batteries from places like China at a ridiculous cost.
Also, 80% of homes use gas boilers. Another chunk (mostly rural) use oil. To change this, with funding and labour constraints, would be a multi-decade project. So we will still need some oil and gas for the foreseeable. But we are prematurely ending production here and importing more from Norway and Qatar.
Great for their economies, and great for funding Norway’s energy transition, but shit for us. Norway is maximising production on their side of the North Sea to fund their transition and as a result they are racing ahead of us economically and environmentally.
These funds also allow Norway to own the infrastructure themselves.
Meanwhile our side of the North Sea is dead and our funds for any transition or ownership of assets is pretty much nonexistent.
There are huge lessons we could learn from France on nuclear and Norway on hydrocarbons and I wish we would follow their lead on this more with our policy intentions.
And they say that life has gone out of the independence movement.
Fuck it. We need shot of Westminster and cut union ties. I’m fucking sick of this shit.
As long as England get there leccy…..
Enjoy it Sheep, this is what you ask for.
Just remember plebs:
* The Broad Shoulders of the Union
* Brexit Means Brexit
* Glorious Great Britain is for all (But mostly for the Unionists in London and the SE)
Worked in the energy sector for a decade,it is an open secret that Scotland is milked for it’s resources and charged for it through ‘distribution’ network charges. It’s a fecking joke, if it was never privatised, we’d have a thriving industry as cost effective as our water is. Do we even really notice what we pay monthly for water through Council Tax? Not really but down south, they pay hundreds per month!
You all know the answer to this. They lied scammed and cheated their way to keeping that status quo in 2014.
Pooling and Sharing.
We Share (and pay), they heat their Pools.
Another benefit of the union – making us feel good about subsidising English consumers.
