November the 12th, 2025 – The traditional and extremely popular Interliber began in Zagreb yesterday. Interliber 2025 expects a successful event and publishers are also realistically expecting a 20% turnover hike.

As Ana Roksandic/Poslovni Dnevnik writes, Interliber Week is the most important week of the year for Croatian publishing houses, with sales breaking records – up to 30% for some publishers. Seid Serdarević, editor-in-chief of the Fraktura publishing house, revealed that from November the 11th to the 16th, when Interliber 2025 is being held this year, the number of books sold will very likely increase for all local publishers.

“The larger the publisher, the smaller the percentage earned from Interliber. I’d say that smaller publishers generate up to 30 percent of their total turnover, while our turnover is around four to five percent,” claimed Serdarević.

increased profits and large figures for publishers and interliber 2025

In addition to providing a spring in the step of smaller publishers, it’s also great for those who don’t have their own bookstores. Martina Kolarić, marketing manager at Stilus Knjiza, expects to achieve 20% more turnover during Interliber 2025. She claims that for publishers like them, who don’t have physical sales outlets, Interliber is an excellent opportunity to meet their readers, as well as to discuss all relevant topics with various colleagues. Stilus Knjiza achieved a total annual revenue of around 850,000 euros last year.

“Interliber has always been and still is a very important segment of the business of any publisher in Croatia. Sales during the six days of Interliber are always significant, but its effects are also felt in the months that follow, because readers are introduced to some titles that they may not have noticed before,” they stated from Znanje.

At Interliber 2025, 360 exhibitors from fifteen different countries will be presenting themselves across more than 13,000 square metres in pavilions 5, 6, 7, and 7a at the Zagreb Fair (Velesajam). The fair has been a kind of start to the Christmas season for publishers and bookstores for many years now, and books are a common and touching Christmas gift.

“That’s an enormous number of visitors, between 100,000 and 120,000. It’s therefore the best opportunity for us all to present ourselves with all of our new releases,” said Serdarević.

more exhibitors at interliber 2025 than before

Interliber director Dina Grozdanović Poštolka pointed out that Interliber 2025 will feature a huge number of publishers from surrounding countries. It’s already widely known as a book fair that represents one of the most important cultural and economic events in Zagreb, which attracts thousands of visitors every year, stimulates book sales, strengthens cultural tourism and brings in significant income. Zagreb Deputy Mayor Luka Korlaet considers Interliber to be “a very important event for the City of Zagreb and for the entire country.” The popularity of the fair is doing anything but declining.

Interest has always been exceptional and it seems to be the case for Interliber 2025 as well. According to Renata Suša, director of the Zagreb Fair, there will be 5% more exhibitors than last year.

All publishers surveyed are satisfied with how much people across Croatia continue to read annually. From Znanje, they say that since 2020, they have been recording continuous growth in book sales, with the younger population reading more and more works written in English. An increase in book sales in the Croatian language has also been recorded, and the positive trend in the industry has been concretely confirmed by the increasing number of new publishers appearing.
