WANA (Nov 12) – Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi held a telephone conversation today with Sergey Lavrov, Russia’s Foreign Minister, to discuss the latest regional and international developments.
During the call, Araghchi referred to the recent clashes between Afghanistan and Pakistan, emphasizing the importance of establishing peace and stability in the region and calling for enhanced dialogue and cooperation among regional countries. He also underlined the need for continued consultations between Tehran and Moscow, as well as with other regional states, to explore ways of achieving lasting peace and stability.
Referring to the recent moves by the United States and European countries in the UN Security Council regarding Palestine, and the draft resolution proposing international trusteeship over Gaza and Palestine, Araghchi said such initiatives contradict the principles of independence and the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and therefore cannot lead to success.
Lavrov welcomed the phone conversation, reaffirming Moscow’s readiness to continue bilateral consultations and regional dialogue, and stressed the importance of cooperation among regional states to maintain collective security.
The two sides also discussed Iran’s cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) ahead of the upcoming Board of Governors meeting, and reiterated the need for continued coordination and collaboration among Tehran, Moscow, and Beijing in this regard.
