Hello. I recently came across this tiny little wooden troll at a thrift store here in the United States. I thought he was so cute and very unique with what seemed to be only one arm? Yet it looked like he was made this way. Google reverse image search said it was a Henning troll. I can not find any like this one and I am trying to do some research on it. I have another one that is similar style I found as well, but I think it got mixed in my Christmas ornaments so I’ll unpack those tomorrow and look for him. I would love to learn more about it if anyone knows and even hopefully get some more! Thank you!

  1. This is a piece of tourist tat from the largest chain of souvenir shops in Norway.

Nothing special, no value other than its intended use (decoration). Not a collectible item. No specific connection to Norwegian folklore (other than depicting a very small nisse).

    Edit:

The designer Henning died in 2005, but his company Mesterstuen still exists. This figurine is not in their current catalogue and is probably made specially for Way Nor in very large quantities. Some Henning products are hand carved in Norway. I’d guess that this particular piece is carved by CNC machine and probably not made in Norway. The original purchasing price is likely less than 30 USD.

  2. I see you have gotten some answers already about HENNING. Based on the pictures it is difficult to tell if it is hand carved or CNC. Could also be a CNC copy based on an original work.
