The US takes a strong stance against COP30! There are more than 50’000 registered delegates at this year’s COP from 193 countries plus the EU. Brazil tops the chart with 3805, China is right behind… and the US simply did not send a registered delegation at all. For the first time ever.
I cannot decide if this is ignorance or strategy. Is the US essentially admitting that the whole COP system has become more spectacle than substance and choosing to sit it out. Or is this just another sign that one of the biggest historical emitters still cannot bring itself to take responsibility.
The absence of the US either feels like a new layer of dysfunction or a strategic stance to drown out the noise of greenwashed PR.
