  1. Two years on, [Israel’s war in Gaza](https://www.wsj.com/world/middle-east/israel-to-begin-drawing-down-reservist-forces-exhausted-by-two-years-of-war-462173da?mod=article_inline) might be finally drawing to a close. The conflict built an unprecedented arms pipeline from the U.S. to Israel that continues to flow, generating substantial business for big U.S. companies—including Boeing, Northrop Grumman and Caterpillar.

Sales of U.S. weapons to Israel have surged since October 2023, with Washington approving more than $32 billion in armaments, ammunition and other equipment to the Israeli military over that time, according to a Wall Street Journal analysis of State Department disclosures.

  2. Not really super interesting. Israel is a US ally retaliating against a terrorist attack. The US sells arms to its allies and does so primarily using private businesses as this dramatically lowers the burden to taxpayers. If the US cut off aid sales to Israel on the whim of some college student TikToks that would basically shatter the US security guarantees worldwide.

The question of if what Israel is doing in Gaza is right is a political / ethical one, not really a business / security one.

  3. It has been big business for Gofundme, what with all the campaigns asking people to donate tens of thousands of dollars, as apparently Egypt wont allow people fleeing a war to enter unless they pay a bribe of $5000 per person.

  4. Articles like this always frame war as a business story but the money is just a symptom. The deeper reality is that conflicts give people moral certainty again. The U.S. doesn’t arm Israel or Ukraine because Raytheon needs revenue. Raytheon thrives because Americans keep turning every conflict into a moral crusade. When people feel lost they grab onto black-and-white causes and the system just follows that demand.
