As Donald Trump continues to bolster the U.S. military presence near Venezuela, Russia has vowed to be “ready” to assist the South American nation. The White House is pressing forward with plans for a strike campaign, which it claims is aimed at cracking down on drug smugglers.
However, experts argue that such attacks on drug boats would violate international law. In May, Caracas and Moscow inked a strategic partnership, and the Kremlin asserts that it stands prepared to act.
Does it mean that we will soon see Venezuelan soldiers in Ukraine?
Starting to wonder if the Venezuelan campaign is actually a Russian pain point being used as leverage against Russia in Ukraine
Personally I doubt if Donald Trump has lost his allegiance to Putin. Something odd is going on.
Remember when Trump stated that he would enforce strong sanctions against Russia, but only if the EU completely stopped using Russian oil and gas? He made that pledge knowing that Victor Orban was also a Putin ally and Hungary would never ever stop using Russian oil.
Everything with Trump is pretense and lies.
Russia failed to protect every ally, including those under the Collective Secure Treaty Organisation that are neighbouring Russia. With Venezuela, they will send thoughts and prayers.
Truthfully words is all Putin can muster for anyone, including his own soldiers in Ukraine. See how he helped in Syria, supported Iran, etc.
Yep just like Assad and Iran got help
> However, a high-ranking Russian official hinted earlier this month that Russia might send its experimental Oreshnik intermediate-range ballistic missile to Venezuela, the same missile used by Moscow to hit central Ukraine a year ago.
and do what with it?
This Venezuela-Russia alliance might be bad news for Ukraine. Venezuela has a ton of soldiers but not the anti-air and anti-naval tech that could deter a US invasion. Russia has the fancy tech, but not enough soldiers for the largely ground-based, drone-focused war in Ukraine. They could make a trade of sorts. Russia has a lot of anti-naval missiles that are collecting dust. And Venezuela has hundreds of thousands of soldiers that are useless against US long-range strikes
Jokes aside, I do worry that they and China will arm Venezuela with anti-ship missiles, which do pose a serious risk to our Navy, including the *Gerald Ford*. The geopolitical implications of a taking out a major US vessel are enormous.
Whether it’s successful or not, that idea has to be very tempting (for different reasons) to both russia and China.
