Two crossings at the border with Belarus were closed following joint army drills with Russia held along the NATO member’s eastern flank.

Warsaw had also shut both crossings shortly after 21 Russian drones entered Polish airspace, an incursion which further frayed Warsaw’s relations with Moscow and its ally Minsk, already strained by the Kremlin’s invasion of Ukraine.

The Polish Interior Ministry said it had taken into consideration the needs of “a large group of entrepreneurs, carriers, and people travelling to work” between the two countries.

In the wake of further Russian drone incursions into allied countries, including neighbouring Lithuania, Poland had on October 30 stated that it would delay the reopening of the crossings until at least mid-November.

Under the plan, the border crossings at Bobrowniki and Kuznica Bialostocka would be reopened on Monday, the Interior Ministry said.

The latter would only let passenger cars through, while the former is set to allow trucks registered in Europe.
