Trump hosts Syria’s Sharaa at White House; Damascus joins anti-IS group coalition • FRANCE 24
How did that meeting go? What? By appearing on conservative US TV channel Fox News, Ahmed Al Sharah hopes to show he’s definitively given up on his jihadist past. Your own past affiliation with al-Qaeda terrorism. I think this is a matter of the past. Now, we did not discuss this actively. We talked about the present and the future. We talked about the investment opportunities in the future in Syria and so that Syria is no longer looked at as a security threat. Earlier on Monday, Al-Shara became the first Syrian leader to officially visit the White House just days after being removed from Washington’s terrorism list. In a historic meeting with Donald Trump, the Syrian president agreed to join the global coalition against the Islamic State, while Washington announced the resumption of diplomatic relations with Damascus. Trump also agreed to partially suspend economic sanctions, repeatedly stressing the importance of a strong and stable Syria for his wider Middle East peace plan. We want to see Syria become a country that’s very successful. And I think this leader can do it. I really do. I think this leader can do it. And people said he’s had a rough past. We’ve all had rough pasts. Since seizing power last year, Ahmed al-Sharaha has sought to break with his violent past and present a more moderate image. Monday’s White House visit capped a remarkable turnaround for the former jihadist, who just a year ago had a $10 million bounty on his head.
US President Donald Trump hosted his Syrian counterpart President Ahmed al-Sharaa for unprecedented talks at the White House on Monday. Although the meeting was held behind closed doors and few policy details were provided afterward, Washington welcomed the once-pariah state into its international coalition to fight the Islamic State (IS) group.

True soldier there
This guy has balls. It's tough to give many interviews about his despicable past and his views on his country.
In his meeting with the Syrian Muslim community in America, he literally said he wasn't ashamed of his past, including the massacres he committed against minorities in Syria. European and American leaders, you are truly disgusting for legitimizing a terrorist who is currently brutalizing Christians and other minorities in Syria.
Trump is doing a good job in dealing with Syria, and we should acknowledge as much. In fact, there is no other president who could have more quickly brought the country back to our good graces. At the same time, we should acknowledge that it was Israel’s bombing of Syria that brought down the Assad regime. And that bombing would not have gone as well if Russia were able to help Assad. It was not. And the reason it was not was because of the Ukrainian resistance that was consistently fortified by Biden. This kept bleeding Russia — to the point of rendering it unable to help even its closest friend, Syria.
Do most Republicans really support this??
Thank you President TRUMP, we do not want wars!
How is it that a terrorist that killed my brothers and sisters who served in the Military gets invited to the White House. This POS President running the country has no respect for the Men and Women who were killed by terrorists. WTF!!!
