The Belgium’s Defence Attaché in Washington DC Brigadier General Bart Verbist has resigned after comments he made about the US President Donald Trump. On Thursday the daily ‘De Morgen’ published an article in which Brigadier General Verbist is quoted as describing the Trump presidency as being "characterised by chaos and unpredictability".

Honestly, he just stated the truth! and he was even too polite about it. It’s ridiculous that he has to resign. What a corrupt government they have in the U.S.

  6. This was already discussed on the other Belgium reddit.

    The job of a diplomate is to communicate with the local regime, no matter how shitty that regime is (“you don´t need diplomacy to talk to your friends”)

    It is never a good thing as a diplomate to be critical of the host country (see also: the USA ambassador to the Netherlands sent by Trump 1 who got roasted by the press)

    Clearly that trust/line of communication is broken, so it is best for all involved for that diplomate to withdraw himself.

    He will go back to Brussels and get a new assignment.

    Edit: sigh. Downvotes. Maybe you don´t understand how the real world functions, or maybe you don´t like it. But that doesn´t change reality.

    Of course the guy was right, but that doesn’t mean he should speak the truth.
