SNL’s episode last night parodying with what I believe was the Sentimental Value film… curious to know what everyone thought about it

  1. It’s true. Norwegian film sucks. There’s basically no money, and it’s two people at NfI that elects the projects. And they keep giving it to the same boring projects nobody watches. the whole industry is inbred so it’s the same 5 people and they’re terrified of taking any risks. Looking at the new funding decisions, you really have to wonder if these people are even competent.

And animation is an even bigger joke. It’s always the same generic kids’ movie getting funded every year. Some Norwegian IP desperate parents end up seeing at Christmas anyway. Either made by the same animation company or by live-action people who think they know anything about animation.

We could just get rid of NFI and the whole Norwegian film industry. No one would miss it.

  2. They must also be referencing Scenes from a marriage, by Ingmar Bergman. I haven’t seen Sentimental value, so did wonder if there was some cross-reference I was missing (other than “Stellan” appearing in skit).

  3. I feel it doesn’t hit home. They don’t sound Norwegian. They don’t act Norwegian. They don’t parody Sentimental Value very well.

  4. Norwegian movies – always so full of drama, even the ones labeled as comedy. And the worst part: the stilted intonation clearly instructed through years at the Norwegian Academy of Theatre.
No wonder we’re famous for Nordic Noir. The whole industry is depressing.

  5. these SNL skits aren’t really on the mark as far as representing anything scandinavian and likely seem more entertaining to an american audience.

Nonetheless, here’s another, this one mocking “swedish television”: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VdQKVDUBu2g](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VdQKVDUBu2g)
