This is so sad

  1. What’s the route? Some boerengat in Limburg or Wallonie

  2. The vast network of busses needed to not make that happen is something we shouldn’t even consider creating.

There’s nothing wrong with using a car if PT isn’t there. And you don’t need to connect every place with every other place with PT – that completed the ride in an acceptable time.

  3. This is the reason why I hate public transport. That and the lack of flexibility and going from door the door. Anyway, all inherent things to public transport.

  4. Yup. I’d love to commute by public transport but it’s 120 mins v 20 mins by car.

  5. I guess you calculated a route between two places each next to a highway exit?

luckily there are plenty of places where the reverse is true, although that doesn’t stop people from taking the car or taxi. And while google maps seems clueless my example takes only about 10 minutes by public transportation (connection at least each 15 minutes)

  6. Coincidence has it that I just got home from a little nearby city trip. I used public transportation and it took me 6,5 hours for a trip I could have done by car in 90 minutes.

  7. I ride 10 or less minutes on bicycle to train station,  40 minutes on slow train,  30 min on e-bike to climb to office.

On car it is never less than 40 minutes.

On e-bicycle it is almost same as on bicycle,  train, e-bike.

If I would dare to use TEC instead of e-bike part, it will be same as in OPs timer or just canceled unpredictability.

  8. It is sad, but I don’t have a car, don’t have a license, am not able to get either anytime soon so public transport in combination with sheer muscle is how I do it. I’m a wheelchair user, so that makes it even less accessible because only like 1 in 10 train stations is wheelchair accessible (meaning they send someone who will have a ramp ready, most of the time paired with going over tracks, hard labour and absolute planning hell). But it’s my only option if I wanna do much anything, so it’s what I do. Train over bus any day though.

  9. Oh, “at this hour”, I see! That’s what would happen if I wanted to go to work at this hour! (Leuze-en-Hainaut -> Mons)

At more reasonable times like 9:00 tomorrow, it takes 1h50 instead (which, at my speed (23km/h), is still slower than cycling). Even down to 1h20 if leaving precisely at 7:45. Still disappointing it’s twice as long as the car, but I get it!

  10. ITT: People who live in bumfuck nowhere but expect public transport like it’s a taxi

  11. Yep, I just recently bought a car again after spending more than a year without (spent most of the time abroad)

even on well connected trajectories, good luck on sundays or during the night..

Within the city itself I always use the bike (unless during heavy rain or when transporting lots of or heavy goods), but if I have to go anywhere beyond the city, car it is

  12. Maps is shitty for bicycle routes though. When I look at the travel options for me to get to work tomorrow at 8:30, it tells me this:

In reality my bicycle route is much shorter and takes me 16-18min. Maps however favours this one because it thinks “aha! cycling path”… in reality it’s a moord strook with an awful climb, while my route is no cycling path but low traffic.

As for the public transport, there is maybe one option every hour that take 33min, the rest are closer to 50.

    The car is realistic though.

  13. Goes to show the “effectiveness” of the flemish urban sprawl, this is the case of many people around here

  14. When i was sixteen i bought a moped. Going to school at 45km/h meant i got to school in half an hour. By bus and tram that took one hour and thirty minutes. I wish i could say i live in the middle of nowhere so that it would make sense, but i don’t. Way to indoctrinate children you can’t rely on public transport.

  15. this is not so much a public transportation problem as it is a ‘ruimtelijke ordening’ problem

  16. I really dont care anymore guys, I am buying a car although I said I wont until I get a kid. Fuck this shit

  17. it’s crazy how much complaining is trending. if you post the same image with similar times. Nobody would upvote.

  18. Let’s talk about the cost. Driving a car vs public transport. No way I am taking PT

  19. Did public transport on this route for almost 2 years before I got a car

I never managed to get below 1h45 actually on public transport. Often took way longer because of missed connections.

And by car it only took 18 minutes. I used to put on [The Decline](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qnFVMkTWaBw&t=2s) when I left work and got home on the final fade out

  20. Yes and a bus isn’t possible after 20:00 or on Sundays 30 km from Brussels.

  21. The car goes directly to it’s destination with no stops in between. The bus goes to 120 stops, and drops you off 2 kilometers from where you want to be. The car will always be faster. The only way to fix that is a bus with one stop everyone votes on.

  22. With what I know from my partner complaining about your transit (she’s in Flanders), my experience from when I’ve been there, and reading all of your comments in this post… it seems like your transit is starting to have the same issues transit has in Canada. That’s not a good thing, ‘cuz we have absolutely shit public transit from coast to coast!
