Ukraine to buy 100 French Rafale jets

1. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signalled interest in buying 100 French-made Rafale fighter jets for his country’s armed forces over the next decade as Russia’s war grinds on. 

   Zelenskyy signed a letter of intent together with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron in Paris today, which the Élysée hailed as ‘historic’. The purchases also include new air-defence systems, drones and radars, according to the Élysée.

3. Financing, production and training bottlenecks will be the major issues to overcome, but with enough will and cooperation anything is possible.  

   But it won’t be easy.

4. So a mixed fleet between Rafale and Gripen. Seems solid but tougher maintenance.
