The other day I saw a black Mercedes van with the above graphic on the registration plate where you would expect the blue EU flag to be. (The above image is something I did, because I did not have a chance to take a photo)

I have done a webby search, but did not find anything.

Is this some new identifier or is it likely to be something someone has had made themselves?

  1. Those are stickers, they are not legal in snyway but look better than that blue fin imo

  2. I’ve seen these recently and most of them are just stickers on the top of the real eu flag. It’s illegal.   4. Stickers and illegal. Seen plenty of blacked EU-flag versions.

  5. Self made nationalistic sticker on regular license plate. Not road legal.

  9. In the past, we had the “SF” sticker (for Suomi Finland), which was then joked to mean “Soviet Finland”. In that vein, this one looks like it is for “Fascist Finland”.

  11. It’s a shame honestly, coming from the US where you can customise your license plate with all kinds of graphics (at least in my state) id love a black EU flag one or some fun graphic to it, especially if it color matches the car.

    On the other hand, I do also enjoy the uniformity of EU license plates, and how you can see the country it’s from immediately.

  14. Haven’t seen that specific one, but I’ve seen one with the standard EU design with the stars and FIN but in black and white instead of blue.

    Was on a white Merc with black rims and blacked out windows, so guessing the blue on the plate clashed with the rest of the style of the car in the owners mind.
