Emirates and Air Canada have extended and expanded their strategic partnership, building on an agreement originally signed in 2022. This partnership, which has already connected more than 550,000 passengers across 56 codeshare routes, links destinations in Canada, the US, Dubai, and other global locations. The airlines have formalized the renewal through a memorandum of understanding that extends their reciprocal codeshare and loyalty programs until December 31, 2032.

The renewed agreement between the two carriers is set to strengthen cooperation and improve services for passengers and cargo shippers. The deal aims to introduce new Canadian gateways to the codeshare network, broadening the scope of their collaboration. This extension of the partnership will benefit both airlines by enhancing connectivity and offering more travel options to their customers.

The early renewal of the deal reflects its success, as it supports Air Canada’s year-round Toronto–Dubai service and provides seamless access to markets across the Indian subcontinent, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. The partnership strengthens the airlines’ ability to connect Canada with the rest of the world and adapt to shifting travel and trade patterns, offering greater opportunities for growth.

The expanded partnership will benefit both passenger traffic and cargo flows between the Americas, the Middle East, and the Indian subcontinent. The airlines are also exploring the possibility of a joint venture focused on cargo operations, which would enhance the global movement of goods. The renewed deal is expected to boost tourism and trade between the UAE and Canada, making it easier for passengers to travel and for businesses to transport goods.

Under the new terms of the agreement, passengers will enjoy increased priority benefits, closer operational coordination, and additional perks. One notable development is the planned transition to Dubai World Central – Al Maktoum International Airport, expected after 2032, which will improve the efficiency of operations for both airlines.

The codeshare network has expanded to include 56 routes, offering Emirates customers access to 37 destinations in Canada and the US. New additions this summer included Toronto–Minneapolis, Montréal–Calgary, and Vancouver–Los Angeles. This growth has enhanced the airlines’ offerings, providing more options for travelers. Additionally, Air Canada now places its code on 19 Emirates routes to the Indian subcontinent, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia, expanding its reach to key international markets.

Beyond the codeshare, the interline partnership between the two airlines offers access to over 225 destinations worldwide, allowing passengers to connect more easily to various international locations. These extended networks provide travelers with increased flexibility and greater convenience when booking flights.

Since the initial 2022 agreement, the airlines have made significant improvements in their operational coordination. For example, Air Canada moved its operations at Dubai International Airport to Emirates’ Terminal 3, allowing eligible Air Canada passengers to use Emirates’ Business Class lounges. This move has enhanced the travel experience for Air Canada passengers traveling through Dubai, providing them with premium amenities and better services during their layovers.

In terms of loyalty benefits, Aeroplan members can now earn and redeem points on Emirates flights to over 140 destinations, while Emirates Skywards members can redeem their points on Air Canada’s extensive network of over 220 destinations. The airlines also plan to expand reciprocal redemptions to each other’s Premium Economy cabins, giving travelers more opportunities to use their loyalty points for upgrades and rewards.

The airlines’ collaboration has already helped more than half a million passengers connect across their networks since 2022. The renewed partnership is expected to enhance customer experiences even further by providing better access to airport services, improving flight options, and offering more loyalty rewards. The extension also emphasizes the importance of partnerships in driving growth within the airline industry, as it allows both carriers to leverage their strengths and expand their reach.

Air Canada currently operates a daily Boeing 787 Dreamliner service between Toronto and Dubai, while Emirates provides daily A380 service to Toronto and seven weekly Boeing 777 flights to Montréal. The increased cooperation between the two airlines will lead to more opportunities for travelers, facilitating smoother connections and a wider variety of travel options. This long-term partnership marks a new phase in the airlines’ collaboration, reinforcing their commitment to improving services and providing better travel experiences for customers.
